Castle Breaks in the UK

Ruthin Castle Hotel in North Wales is on a site that has history going back to the 13th century. One of the first recorded buildings was a large wooden fort that stood until 1277 when it was replaced by a red stone construction for King Edward I. The castle was updated and changed ownership at various times over the centuries and eventually closed down in 1950. It was bought at auction in the early 1960's and converted into a hotel with a young Prince Charles being one of it's most important guests when he stayed there at the time of his investiture as the Prince of Wales. A four star Ruthin Castle Hotel break is highly recommended.

Another fantastic night in a castle is in the Bath Lodge Castle, which is located just six miles outside beautiful Bath.. This is built in grounds on land originally named Fernleah, and has documented records going way back to 987AD, over 1000 years of rich and varied history. The name Fernleah changed to Ferlege when entered into the Domesday Book, and then changed again to Farleigh in the 12th Century. Farleigh House changed ownership many times over the next several centuries and eventually went to Lt. Colonel John Houlton in 1806. He extended it and added lodges, conservatories and hot houses. One of the lodges, Castle Lodge, later became Bath Lodge Castle. This is one of the nicest castle breaks in England and is now a wonderful boutique hotel in a Grade II listed building and offers superb facilities and surroundings for a great value castle break in the UK.

Peckforton Castle Hotel stands in the Peckforton Hills in Cheshire and is a country house built in the style of a gothic mediaeval castle for the Tollemache family. It dates from the mid 19th century and is a Grade I listed building. It was sold in the late 1980's and converted into a grand hotel. It is a fully functional hotel with conferences, weddings and other functions all catered for. Without doubt, an absolutely superb place for a splendid night in a castle break.
