Explore History Breaks in the UK

Many of us just love to explore historic houses in the UK and find out as many facts as possible about the home and the surrounding areas. We have listed a few of the many fascinating explore history breaks in the UK.

The fabulous Ruthin Castle Hotel in beautiful North Wales is on a site that has history going way back to the 13th century. One of its first recorded buildings was a wooden fort that stood until 1277 when it was replaced by a large red stone construction for King Edward I. This castle changed ownership and was updated at various times over the centuries and eventually closed down in the 1950's. It was then bought at auction in the 1960's and was converted into a hotel with a young Prince Charles being one of it's most important first guests when he stayed there at the time of his investiture as the Prince of Wales. A four star Ruthin Castle Hotel explore break is highly recommended.

Another fantastic explore history break in North Wales is at the Bodelwyddan Castle Hotel. This superb castle is a Grade II listed building and dates back to 1460 when it was constructed by the Humphreys family from Anglesey. The castle, as it is today, was reconstructed in the mid 19th century by Sir John Hay Williams. During the fist world war the castle was used as a hospital for wounded soldiers and its grounds became training facilities for the war effort. It is widely believed that the castle is haunted by ghosts which may, or may not, appeal to all those staying there for a history weekend break!

The lovely Nidd Hall Hotel in Yorkshire is a fine four star hotel and is a perfect location for those wanting to soak up a piece of English history. This grade II listed mansion is set in 45 acres of parkland and dates way back to 1820.

These are just some of the many superb history breaks in the UK and they really are a wonderful way to enjoy an explore history break at a location not far from most of us living in the United Kingdom.
